Dozens of taxi drivers stopped providing their services Tuesday morning in order to take part in a demonstration in the Civic Center to demand a fee raise.

The drivers, who stopped their vehicles along De los Heroes Avenue, demand a 25 percent fee raise.

The proposal would increase the fee from 15 to 20 pesos, or about a dollar.

Mexicali League of Chauffeurs President Ricardo Aguilera said the fee raise has been charged for the last four months in over a dozen routes. Previously, Mexicali Mayor Norma Bustamante said the fee raise is illegal, which has led the city to request the state to hold drivers accountable.
