Mexicali taxi drivers met Monday with state officials in order to demand justice for a colleague.

Relatives, friends and colleagues met Assistant Secretary of Government Jose Daniel Gutierrez to discuss the case of driver Jesus, who died in a traffic accident.

The suspect’s defense attorney requested probation for his client — an issue that has raised concerns among taxi drivers.

The driver’s relatives and friends held a demonstration in the Civic Center to demand justice and avoid the suspect, who has been identified as Leonardo, 18, from being released from prison.

The suspect in the case allegedly killed the taxi driver while driving under the influence. Undersecretary of Legal Affairs Cristian Ornelas was asked to follow up the case and report any developments to the victim’s friends and relatives.
