Thousands of residents marched Sunday evening by the streets of the Civic Center to protest against the legislative proposal to decriminalize abortion.

The march started out in Vicente Guerrero Park and concluded in the Three Branch Square.

Protesters held signs against abortion during the march, in which church leaders took part.

The event was held after a lawmaker with the President’s National Regeneration Movement Party introduced a bill that would decriminalize abortion before 12 weeks of pregnancy. Also, penalties were reduced for abortion after such threshold.

Pro Life organizations blocked the legalization of facilities to demand the bill’s withdrawal. Also, anti-abortion representatives had plans to meet Assembly Speaker Juan Manuel Molina Monday to discuss the proposal.
