Due to the pandemic, transit companies had abandoned routes and even decided to move to the transportation of employees of manufacturing plants and other businesses.
Sustainable Mobility Institute Director Jorge Gutiérrez told La Voz newspaper that these routes are still without service. In Mexicali, at least half of the routes have run without operation for months due to the lack of users.
Gutiérrez said one of the most affected areas was the Santorales one in western Mexicali.
According to the state official, during the past administration the state focused on Tijuana, leaving the issue unattended in the other cities. The agency seeks to negotiate with transit companies in order to find a solution given the reopening of schools.
