Dozens of Ukrainian immigrants had arrived in Mexicali’s Pedestrian West Port of Entry in order to apply for asylum in the US.
The arrival came after the five-week invasion of Russia to Ukraine and the saturation of Tijuana’s ports of entry.
Men, women, and children were transported in a van with Washington State plates, according to media reports.
Based on CDC recommendations the US Department of Homeland Security announced the lifting of Title 42 — a policy set during the Trump administration to stop immigrants from arriving to American soil to prevent the Covid-19 from spreading in the country. Mexico’s federal government delegate in Baja California Alejandro Ruiz said during the year close to 500 Ukrainians had arrived to apply for asylum.
