Once again, Mexicali veterinarians held a demonstration at the City’s Animal Control facilities in order to force the local authorities to catch loose dogs.

The issue, veterinarians said, is causing overpopulation and spread of Canine Transmissible Venereal Tumors — a sexually transmitted cancer-like illness.

Veterinarians previously protested last month to demand the dismissal of the center’s director due to her lack of college degree. The city official was reassigned to another area within the same agency.

Veterinarian Víctor Quezada said around 400 complaints of loose dogs had been made at the center that had been apparently ignored. Mexicali Mayor Norma Bustamante said she plans to hold a meeting with city officials and veterinarians to address the issue.
