Lawmakers held Thursday a hearing regarding Baja Californians voting abroad.
Sociologist Victor Espinoza took part in the hearing and said many voters hand moved to the states of California, Arizona, Texas and Nevada, that can be seen as a plus to allow them vote in the 2024 elections.
However the researcher said 33,000 voters registered to vote in this year’s elections.
Since 2018, voters abroad had voted the same path as voters in Mexico, Espinoza said.
According to the sociologist, voters abroad could also be able to elect migrant lawmakers much like happens in Mexico City and Chiapas.
Also, Espinoza suggested allowing foreign nationals living in Mexico who belong to minorities the right to vote as in European countries. However, the sociologist said much has still to be done, especially in terms of legislation and affirmative action.
