Chiapas native and years-long adoptive daughter of Mexicali Aremi Fuente became champion of the National Weightlifting Championship held recently in San Luis Potosí, Mexico.

Fuentes, an Olympic medalist herself, won in the -81 kilogram division with 231 kilograms total.

The athlete was forced to move to the -81 kilogram after the International Federation removed the 76 kilogram division in which Fuentes won bronze in the Tokyo Olympics.

Now, the athlete has her eyes set on the Pan American Championship of Bogota, Colombia, that will take place July 22-30. Fuentes also plans to compete next year in the Pan American Games of Santiago, Chile.
