The body of a dead woman was found next to a canal in rural Mexicali.

According to media reports the incident was notified to the authorities at 12:47 a.m. Sunday close to the Pacífico Canal in Guadalupe Victoria rural town.

A reporting party told the police the corpse was located in the area.

Upon arrival the police found the body that had blood stains and gunshot wounds.

Firefighters were called to the scene to extract the corpse from the canal.

The police also found close to the scene several bullet casings. The victim was dressed in dark colored clothes.

The woman who was found dead Sunday in the Guadalupe Victoria rural town was shot about 20 times, the state Coroner’s office said.

The victim, who has not been identified, was found about midnight Sunday in an irrigation canal.

The authorities found several bullet casings calibers .223 and 9mm.

According to the authorities the body had 20 shotgun injuries in the head and abdomen. The agency said the victim had a tattoo with the words Isabela in the left forearm.
