State authorities recently met in order to decide how to allow religious groups bring worship services to prisoners in order to help with their rehabilitation.
State Religious Affairs Director Salvador Flores said in a prepared statement that the authorities must first set a strategy to allow religious groups enter state prisons while keeping prisoners and group representatives safe.
Jorge Jesús Razo, with the State Commission of the Penitentiary System also said religious groups would benefit prisoners. The state is home to 1,256 registered religious groups and about 2,000 unregistered more.
